Parochial Vicar of the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul
Fr. Alex Hernandez is of Puerto Rican descent from both his mother and father. He was born in Massachusetts, raised in Florida, and has lived in East Tennessee since he was 12 years old. His original home parish is Our Lady of Fatima in Alcoa.
Fr. Alex entered Kenrick Glennon seminary in St. Louis immediately after high school. He studied there for all 9 years of his seminary formation.
He was ordained to the priesthood on the feast day of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist, August 29, in 2020. His first priestly assignment was the parish of All Saints in Knoxville, where he served for just under 4 years. Since July 1st, 2024 he has been assigned to the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul as Parochial Vicar.
Fr. Alex is a huge Star Wars fan, loves trying new foods, enjoys movies, reading, and had pet chickens growing up. He is fluent in English and Spanish. If he could have any super power it would be Omnilingualism, which means he would be able to understand and speak any language.
