Mary Cecilia Brewer, who had been a parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul and OLPH, has passed away at the age of 98. A funeral Mass will be offered at the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul Friday, October 14 at 9:30am. All are welcome to come and pray for her soul.
Mary Cecilia Brewer worked in the offices of Sts. Peter and Paul and Notre Dame High School in the mid-20th century. Living alone into old age with no nearby relatives, she depended on support from Alexian Brothers and the Knights of Columbus Council 610, the Blessed Virgin Mary Visitation Guild, as well as local priests. She would often contact the Basilica parish office to talk. Mary spoke fondly of several priests she served during her tenure at Sts. Peter and Paul and Notre Dame High School, including Fr. Flanagan, Fr. Nelson, Fr. Tierney, and Fr. Driscoll.
Of notable mention, Mary Brewer was known to have typed Fr. Flanagan's 100-year history of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, The Centenary, and she is acknowledged in that book, published in 1952.
