Basilica parishioners are encouraged to join and post items or services that they are offering to give away or looking to receive for free. The hope is to provide a convenient channel for practicing charity and solidarity within the Basilica community.
Thanks to Katie Bird for her initiative in bringing our parish community together in this practical way!
Buy-Nothing Weekend Bin
There is now a designated “weekend bin” at the Basilica to help facilitate the transfer of Buy-Nothing Group items. Saturdays and Sundays are obviously a convenient time to swap goods, but since the giver and the receiver don't always attend the same Mass time, there have been items left in various spots around campus for the receiver to pick up at a later time. The hope is that the designated bin will cut down on the risk of the items being forgotten about, moved during cleaning, stolen, or brought to the lost-and-found by mistake. The container is clearly labeled "Buy-Nothing Group" and is located across from the elevator just outside Varallo Hall.
Buy-Nothing Weekend Bin Rules:
1. Giver: please attach a note to the item stating a) the date it was dropped off, and b) the receiver’s name and phone number
2. Receiver: please pick up the item the same weekend if at all possible.
3. A volunteer from the buy-nothing ministry will check the bin each Monday for items and will text the phone number to remind them to pick up the item. (Note that the Basilica front door is open daily until 5:30pm.) Items left in the bin for longer than a week will be donated.
You do not have to use this bin! If it doesn't work for your schedule or you are transferring a large item, please make your own arrangements.
If you are someone who is regularly at or close to the Basilica on Mondays, please let Katie Bird know if you’d be willing to check the bin for leftover items while you’re there. Thanks!
