The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 8 falls on Sunday this year. Because it is the principal patron feast day of the Diocese of Knoxville, this feast is elevated in our Diocese. Bishop Beckman has allowed us to celebrate the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary at our Masses the weekend of September 7 and 8, in place of the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time. Fr. Carter has chosen to take this option at our Novus Ordo Masses. At the 11:30 Mass on Sept. 8, the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be commemorated during the Mass celebrated for the 16th Sunday after Pentecost.
There is a plenary indulgence opportunity, under the usual conditions, for those who visit the Basilica on September 8.
