James David Poole Sr., 79, died peacefully with his family on July 24, 2022. James had been a member of the U. S. Air Force and a Mechanic. A lifelong Catholic, James was a devotee to the traditional Latin Mass. He suffered with Alzheimer's disease late in life, and when he could no longer attend in person, he continued to watch the Basilica's Sunday livestream and was visited by the Blessed Virgin Mary Visitation Guild.

James David Poole, Sr., 79, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2022, surrounded by his family. David was born December 8, 1942 to the late Henry Raymond and Millie Jane Poole in Burlington, KY. 

After attending Saint Henry`s Catholic School, David went on to serve in the United States Air Force as a jet engine mechanic for the S.A.C. at Eaker`s Air Force Base (AR). He then moved to Chattanooga, TN, where he began his over 35-year career at Stowers machinery as a heavy machinery Mechanic.  In his spare time, David loved being outdoors; where he was found either hunting, fishing, gardening, golfing, flying or enjoyed 4-wheeling with his children and grand-children.  Another love was “ole betsy,” his old jeep truck, along with a love for playing the guitar, banjo, fiddle, piano and the mandolin.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy William Poole, his parents, Henry Raymond and Millie Jane Poole, his brothers, Mike (Betty), Tom (Patty), Louis (Dottie), Freddie (Mary), and Steve Poole.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Billie Jane Poole, his son, James David (Allison) Poole, Jr. of Boerne, TX, his daughters, Jennifer Rebecca Poole, of Signal Mountain, TN and Jamie Lynn Poole of Chattanooga, TN, brother, Billy Poole of Hebron, KY, sisters, Patty Patterson of Fort Mitchel, KY, Rita Nienbor (Bob) of Burlington, KY, Mary Jo Poole Hall (Wayne) of Guthrie, KY, sister-in-law, Betty Poole of Burlington, KY, four grandchildren, Barrett Poole and Gracie Hammond, both of Signal Mountain, along with William and Andrew Poole of Boerne, TX, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Requiem Mass of Christian Burial (in Latin) will be held Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 9:30am at The Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. 

Burial will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 11:00am.
