At the 9:00 a.m. Sunday Mass in the Ordinary Form, our Basilica Choir, directed by Debi Crabtree, leads the singing of the Ordinary, simple Psalm-tone Propers, and congregational hymns. At this Mass the pipe organ, and occasionally the choir, provides a meditative prelude, and the choir offers a selection of polyphonic motets and other sacred choral pieces at each Mass.
The Basilica Choir rehearses in the choir loft on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 8 p. m. and again on Sunday mornings at 8 a. m. right before the 9 a. m. Mass. New singers are always welcome to join the choir at a Tuesday rehearsal to prepare the music for the following Sunday’s Mass. Some ability to read music is important, although participation in this ensemble will provide growth opportunities for members to increase their reading ability. Other liturgically appropriate musical instruments are also invited to support the singing and enhance the music. Feel free to visit with Debi and the other singers in the choir loft following the 9 a. m. Mass for information about the upcoming Tuesday rehearsal.
